SOMERVILLE “LAKEFEST” BEING MOVED TO PAZDRAL PARK DUE TO RECENT FLOODING
The Annual “Dam LakeFest, normally held at Lake Somerville, has been moved to the newly-expanded Pazdral Park in Somerville on Saturday, July 16th, with many of the festival’s usual activities still planned, according to the Burleson County Chamber of Commerce.
The Burleson Chamber, City of Somerville met with the Army Corps of Engineers to get together backup plans for the festival due to the recent flooding, which resulted in the closure of the lake and its facilities
Emmitt Attaway, reservoir manager, says it could be 90 days before the park could be reopened, citing another heavy rain year, 1992, in which it took that long for the park to reopen.
Activities include a barbecue cook-off, a concert featuring Cory Morrow, arts and crafts and food vendors, a biergarten tent, and much more.
The events that are normally held at the lake include the “Anything that Floats” regatta, Beach Club, the Groovy Art Car Show, and Classic Car Show and sand castle contest have been canceled.
Pazdral Park was chosen because it contains 20 acres of land, including the ten acres recently donated.
