BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF WASHINGTON CO. PROVIDING PROGRAMS, SUPPORT THROUGH COVID-19 CLOSURE
As Brenham and Burton ISD students remain out of the classroom, the Boys and Girls Club of Washington County is doing what it can to help children and their families during this COVID-19 pandemic.
Boys and Girls Club Executive Director Stephanie Wehring said, while its Brenham and Burton sites were closed to the public earlier this month, and she expects the closures to continue into the foreseeable future, the club continues to stay in touch with its members through videos and special programs provided online and on social media. The programs offered cover themes such as proper health safety and hygiene, exercising, and even cooking.
Wehring said the safety of children remains the club’s top focus, but added that the club has to walk a fine line.
In the closure announcement earlier this month from the Boys and Girls Club, it said it will continue to monitor all updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local health authorities for updated information. It also said it advises all staff, families, and youth members to take precautions as recommended by the CDC.
Wehring said through this closure, the club will also work to meet the basic needs of families by offering a drive-thru food distribution service.
The drive-thru Friday will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of the club’s site in Brenham at 1710 East Tom Green Street. 11 a.m. to noon will be reserved for current club members and their families, while the drive will open to all Washington County youth 18 and under from noon to 1 p.m., or while supplies last. Club members are strongly encouraged to bring their Club ID to speed up the distribution process, while non-members are asked to provide their name, address, and phone number.
