BURTON CITY COUNCIL TO POTENTIALLY APPOINT NEW MEMBER

The Burton City Council is expected to appoint a new member at its meeting tonight (Tuesday).

Burton City Councilmembers receive a presentation at their meeting in March. Tuesday's meeting will be held at the Burton Volunteer Fire Department Station #2.

The council will consider appointing Paul McLaughlin to the City Council Position Four.  The position was previously held by Jerry Martin, who submitted his resignation last month after serving on the council since May 2018.

Also at tonight’s meeting, the council will consider amending the city’s animal control ordinance after tabling action on an amendment last month to limit the number of cats and dogs residents could own.

The amendment presented in November has been changed to allow residents to house more than four dogs and six cats, as long as they can prove they are providing temporary housing or foster care.  The exception would only include care through a licensed animal shelter or certified non-profit animal rescue organization.

The council will also consider:

  • Submission of a formal application to the Texas Water Development Board for loan funding for a backup water well and having a water conservation plan created.
  • A resolution adopting investment policy, strategies, guidelines and management practices for the city.
  • A mobile home ordinance variance for behind 610 North Colorado Street on Trinity Street, or for 12832 West Burton Street. A Burton resident is seeking a variance to the ordinance and asking for approval to move into a brand new mobile home on one of two locations: either off of Trinity Street or on West Burton Street.
  • An executive session to discuss personnel matters.

The council will meet this afternoon at 5:30 p.m. at the Burton Volunteer Fire Department Station #2, located at 1687 FM 1697, in order to provide space for social distancing.
