BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO DISCUSS APPOINTING INTERIM CITY MANAGER THURSDAY

The Brenham City Council will meet on Thursday to consider naming an interim city manager.

The council will meet in executive session to discuss the appointment of a temporary city manager.  It will then move into regular session to take action on the item.

On Thursday, the council voted 5-2 to terminate the city manager contract of James Fisher effective immediately, following three hours in executive session.  Mayor Milton Tate and Councilmember Albert Wright voted against the termination.

Fisher’s contract was slated to expire on January 10, 2022, after the council in October 2020 voted to extend it for one year.  Fisher served in the position starting in January 2018, after previously serving as city manager in Forney, east of Dallas.

The council will meet Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Brenham City Hall.

  1. I agree with you old BWG man. If there is not change in character of existing management then nothing will be gained.

  2. This city council cannot find another person from outside to fill the position on such short notice. So end result will be no change. Will have the same management problems that have existed past 15 years. That is when the problems started. Just follow the money !!

  3. This is a good time for city council to drain the swamp at city hall and audit paychecks vs necessity. Time to rid city hall of everyone who has been drinking the kool aid and eating the sushi. The sushi era is over and the bottom feeders who contributed also need to be flushed down the septic system.

  4. Look at who voted against the contract termination…Brenham City Hall operated like the personal fiefdoms of these people…They outsource everything and fleece the locals to pay for it…I respect the mayor but it’s time…to let change happen ! It will happen! Until it does, local people will just grimly bare out the superior attitude of city hall while handing over our money…I’m glad to see the city Manager moved out …The city council is apparently willing to help make changes…bravo! Please don’t stop

  5. We need a city manager who will go out of their way to tell the taxpayers the time of day. We need a city manager that is accountable and is not driving the city into more debt. The present staff has already had years of opportunity to do this, and they have failed. The new city manager needs to have a track record of keeping costs down and not hiring unnecessary personnel. It is a shame that city retirement benefits is less than all other cities the size of Brenham, this is despicable for city workers who work in the heat and cold and are on call 24-7. Existing city management has grossly failed. New manager needs to have track record of these accomplishments when interviewed.

  6. Although she may not want the Job, I would like to see Carolyn Miller as City Manager, She knows the inner working of the city, she Is a Local person and has the respect of almost everyone in Brenham, She is the top pick for me. If she is so inclined to take the job, who knows since the city is in such a mess. whoever gets the job we all need to give them a chance, Its going to take years to clean up the damage that Fischer and the Old City council did to our City of Brenham
