WOMAN FLOWN TO HOSPITAL AFTER BEING STRUCK BY TRAIN NEAR BRENHAM
Update @ 11 a.m.: A woman is in critical condition after being struck by a train Wednesday night, north of Brenham.
According to Washington County Sheriff Otto Hanak, sheriff’s deputies were dispatched around 7 p.m. to the scene of a pedestrian-train accident that occurred near the intersection of Benton Drive and Strangmeier Road.
Deputies, along with personnel from Washington County EMS and the Brenham Police and Fire Departments, located the victim. According to Hanak, investigation indicates that she did not respond after the train saw her on or near the track and activated the horn.
Upon striking the victim, the train stopped after traveling approximately 600 feet.
EMS personnel treated the patient until she was transferred to a College Station hospital by helicopter. The victim has not been identified.
The sheriff’s office continues to investigate the incident, with assistance from the Texas Rangers. No further information was released.
Original Story @ 7:11 a.m.: Brenham and Washington County authorities are investigating after a reported train versus pedestrian accident Wednesday night.
The Brenham Fire Department was called just after 7 p.m. to Benton Drive and Lounge Road, north of Brenham, to assist multiple other agencies and emergency responders in locating the victim.
The female patient was found in the area of Berlin Road, approximately ¾ mile from the Lounge Road crossing. Firefighters assisted EMS in getting the victim off the tracks.
No further information was available this (Thursday) morning as to the nature of the accident or the patient’s condition. The incident remains under investigation.
