BURTON CITY COUNCIL TO NAME NEW MAYOR, HIRE CITY SECRETARY

The Burton City Council will hold its monthly meeting tonight (Wednesday), rescheduled from March 9th, to vote on the appointment of a new mayor.

The council will consider naming Pete Horn, a businessman and a member of Burton’s beautification committee, to be the city’s new mayor.  Former mayor David Zajicek stepped down from office on March 8th.

Also at today’s meeting, the council will look to officially hire Angela Harrington as city secretary.  Harrington served in the position before the city hired Adrian Cepeda on January 12, 2021.

The council will also potentially change operating hours at city hall.  If approved, city hall would no longer be open on Monday, moving to a schedule of Tuesday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In addition, councilmembers will seek to approve a certification of unopposed candidates and the cancellation of the May 7th election.

In other business, the council will consider:

  • Conveying undeveloped property at the end of East Branch Street and the road formerly known as South Colorado Street to American Kinetics, Inc. (AMKIN).
