Officer Lawrence Garnett was recognized for his efforts to help save a victim of a traffic accident while off duty.

Brenham Police Captain Lloyd Powell, presenting the honor on behalf of Police Chief Ron Parker, said Garnett was driving home to the Houston area just after 2:45 a.m. on May 3rd after a 12-hour shift, when he drove up on an accident on Highway 290.  He found a man lying in the street next to a car that was fully involved in fire.

Cpt. Powell said Garnett immediately jumped into action, pulling the man away from the burning vehicle and performing CPR until help arrived.  The victim did not survive, but Cpt. Powell said Garnett’s actions were “courageous.”

Garnett thanked his command staff for his training and his co-workers for their constant support.
