A former student and administrator at Blinn College is now looking to join its board of trustees.

Andrea Liner is a candidate for the Precinct 2 position belonging to Douglas Borchardt, who is not seeking re-election for a third term.  Liner was Blinn’s Dean of Admissions and Records/Registrar from 2013 to 2018.  She currently works for the National Student Clearinghouse, a not-for-profit organization that acts as a higher education liaison between colleges and student financial aid groups.  She will face Diane Kettler in the spring election.

Liner says she has a heart for community college and a strong comprehension of the big picture.  She aims to help Blinn meet what it is fully capable of.

Liner obtained degrees from Blinn, Texas A&M University and the University of Texas at Tyler, the latter of which she worked at for five years as a coordinator.  Prior to Blinn, she was a registrar for four years at Tyler Junior College.

If elected, Liner says she wants to keep Blinn relevant with programs that will serve local businesses while maintaining fiscal responsibility with Washington County’s tax dollars and listening to the needs of the public.  She says she strives for the college to be able to serve the dreams of any students, staff or faculty.

The race between Liner and Kettler will be the only contested one on the board.  Precinct 3 trustee Allison Bentke is unopposed to begin her first full term after being appointed in October 2021 to serve out the remainder of Teddy Boehm’s term.

This past Friday was the deadline for candidates to declare their intent to run in the May 6th election.  Early voting will take place from April 24th to May 2nd.
