BRENHAM FIRE DEPT. CANCELS ANNUAL FISH FRY

A major fundraiser for the Brenham Fire Department will not be held this spring due to scheduling conflicts.

The Brenham Fire Department announced today (Friday) that it will not host its annual fish fry.

According to a press release, the Fireman’s Training Center was accidentally booked for another function on the same date of the fish fry.

A different date was chosen, but it was soon realized that the neighboring Meyersville Volunteer Fire Department was having its fish fry on that date.  All other alternate dates were exhausted due to the Fireman’s Training Center being booked.

Fire Chief Roger Williams said the department knows the community looks forward to this event each year during the Lenten season and apologizes that it could not make the event work this year.  He said the department “felt it was the right thing to do under the circumstances.”

Money from past fish fries has been used for critical items such as the Jaws of Life, air bags, struts, thermal imaging cameras, and wildland and rescue firefighting gear.

While there will not be an event, Williams said there have been “personal financial in kind gifts given directly to the department.”

All members and volunteers of the Brenham Fire Department and Brenham Firefighters Association thank the public for its understanding and continued support.

  1. Thanks to Fisher & the new out of town leadership of the Brenham Fire Department, all the traditions & values that it’s members Proudly built throughout the city & the state for years are now gone along with a lot of highly knowledgeable members that have left because of no say in what goes on & what used to be a membership decision is now a desk decision , truly a new direction.

  2. Maybe the fundraiser is not really needed?
If they are not going to have it because of scheduling difficulties?
It seems to me that if it was such an important fund raiser, they could have figured something else out.
Does anyone know why the Brenham City Fire Department needs a fund raiser anyway?
Do they not get enough money from ALL of the city taxes? I understand volunteer Departments needed funds, but why the City of Brenham?
I don’t know? Does someone out there know?
    Please advise, if possible.
    Thank you.

    1. Actually no, the city only provides a small portion of the $ needed to fund the equipment & training that we have in the city of Brenham. The training center was a brainchild of past volunteer’s members in the 80s who were in the membership. A local landowner donate the land as a non profit not to the city but it’s members, then along with members who owned businesses or had contacts with local companies that had the knowledge & labor skills that built the building through many hrs. of volunteer labor and a bank loan which was paid in full through many hall rentals & fundraising events & many volunteer hrs. working to maintain & pay off the loan with no tax payer help for the building, income from serving guests in the bar or work functions in this building call THE FIREMANS TRAINING CENTER which by the way is not owned by the city and is was self-maintained by members and its sole purpose is to fund to toys the city could not afford through the budget Brenham’s first large rescue truck, Grass rig and a pumper to only mention a few large items and a large amount of gear & equipment to supply trucks that have been bought by the city to keep trucks operating at their full capacity and capabilities. The building rentals also paid with its income for out of town local and State convention expenses for us FD/AUX members to proudly go represent & get training for the city of Brenham for many yrs. that tax money didn’t need to be used for & came through funds of this building that is not a city owned building but a non-profit project of its members to boost what is needed to supply the level of protection the members afford the local & surrounding area.
Ask any BFD past volunteer they can help with your question. My family Loved every minute we served Brenham as a past member!

      1. Thank you for the information. I am still confused as to why there is not enough money for the city fire department. The city collects plenty of money from many different sources. The city police seem well funded. Also, if they do not have enough money, and this was a necessary fundraiser, how could no one figure out how to make it happen sooner/later, or at a different venue? Not asking you personally, but the question still remains.

      2. Sounds like need to ask the past fireman to run and plan it now They never forgot a major fundraiser event !!!!

  3. There are many other venues available in Brenham, why not change it to a new location??? Maybe Fireman’s park, a city owned property? This is a joke Brenham.

  4. Since this is one of their biggest fundraisers, could they maybe see about renting and having it at another facility? The funds are necessary and needed for the fire department! That’s very important!

  5. Sounds like poor planning and mismanagement going on!! Every year same weekend of the month is the fish fry why just add it to the calendar for every year repeat. Think if the Washington county fair would forget to rent the fair grounds or expo they call it now ( still old sign up on the road ). How many kids would be mad and business that support them be. WAKE UP people

    1. you are so right .That is such a lame excuse an event that has been going on for many a year at the “FIREMAN’S TRAINING CENTER” (so be the name) then that date should be automatically reserved. O h well did not really care for the potato salad anyway would rather have french fries
