The Washington County Farm Bureau and the Texas A&M Agri-Life Extension Service hosted a large gathering of fourth graders as part of Washington Ag Day.

401 students from 21 classes took part in the annual event. That number was up from the 355 students that attended last year.

Volunteers manned a series of stations that showed the children how Agriculture and Environment affects their daily lives.

Station topics included: farm safety, corn, horses, cotton, poultry, beef, lamb, goat, swine, nature, bees, nutrition, exercise, entomology, and wildlife.

They also had hands-on demonstrations that included shucking and shelling corn, animal pelts, and a live alligator.

Between sessions, the 4th graders were treated to a beef hot dog lunch served by the Washington County Cattlewomen.
