ACCUSED WALLER COUNTY DRUG DEALER GETS CONVICTED
It only took a Waller County jury 15 minutes to convict an accused drug dealer of selling methamphetamines out of his home.
According to the Waller County District Attorney’s Office, 46-year-old Brent Michael Derrick of the Pine Island community was arrested in the summer of 2021.
One of his sales of methamphetamines was captured on video surveillance using a confidential informant working with the Westside High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force and the Waller County Sheriff’s Office.
Assistant District Attorney Bennett Dodson was the lead prosecutor on the case, and he was assisted by ADA Bryce Pringle.
Derrick has chosen to be sentenced by a judge, which will occur in September. He could face as much as twenty years in prison.
Waller County District Attorney Elton Mathis said, “Places such as Derrick’s home are magnets for thieves and addicts looking for a place to store stolen property and get their next hit.”
Mathis added that he wanted to personally thank Sheriff Troy Guidry for listening to the complaints from neighbors and making the decision to attempt to shut it down.
The Austin County Sheriff’s Office, Hempstead Police Department, and other agencies that assisted with the case were also thanked for their contributions.
