BURTON SCHOOL BOARD TO DISCUSS PROPOSED PAY PLAN, TAX RATE

Budget talks, including discussion on the staff payment plan and a tax rate, will continue during the next Burton School Board meeting on Monday.

The board met in a workshop on August 2nd to lay out a path forward for how to implement pay raises for Burton ISD employees.

At that meeting, trustees agreed that they wanted to see what the exact number of employees getting raises would be, compare the cost of instituting raises as opposed to bonuses or stipends, and contact the Texas Association of School Boards about creating a plan to factor employee retention into the increased pay.

Board members will also consider a proposed tax rate to be published.  Last year’s approved rate was $1.0546 per $100 valuation, made up of $0.8546 for maintenance and operations (M&O) and $0.2000 for interest and sinking (I&S).

A date for a public hearing on the budget and proposed tax rate will also be set.

Other business will include discussion and consideration of the superintendent’s contract and salary, a resolution with the Texas Rural Broadband Coalition regarding dependable and affordable broadband access, and an agreement designating Washington County Extension agents as adjunct staff members.

An executive session will be held to discuss personnel, discipline and district safety and security.

The board will meet Monday at 6 p.m. in the Burton High School auditorium.
