BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD POSTPONES SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH

Clay Gillentine

Brenham ISD will have to wait a little while longer to find out who will be the next Superintendent of Schools.

At a meeting last (Tuesday) night, the Brenham School Board went into executive session for over an hour.

When they reconvened in open session, they made the decision to amend and extend the contract of current acting superintendent Clay Gillentine.

The board also decided that they will wait until the spring of 2024 to resume the search for the next superintendent.

The motion passed with a unanimous vote of 7-0.

Board members interviewed five finalists last week, and were scheduled to have a second round of interviews this week.

They were then supposed to name a lone finalist for the position by the end of this week.

Gillentine, who was the Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services, was named as the Interim Superintendent back on October 2, following the abrupt departure of  the previous Superintendent, Dr. Tylor Chaplin.

Chaplin had originally planned to stay with the district until the end of the year, but then decided to leave sooner.

Extends Acting Superintendent's Contract and Resumes Search in Spring 2024

Brenham, TX, November 15, 2023 — During a special school board meeting on November 14, 2023, the Brenham Independent School District (BISD) School Board took a significant step to ensure the seamless operation of the district. The Board, in a unanimous 7-0 vote, passed a motion to amend and extend the contract of the current acting superintendent, Clay Gillentine. Simultaneously, the decision includes plans to recommence the superintendent search in the spring of 2024.

President Lange stated, "Our duty is to the Brenham community, and it is our responsibility to ensure that the superintendent selection process is meticulous and in the best interest of the students and all those we serve. We have confidence in Acting Superintendent Gillentine's ability to maintain stability and lead the district effectively during this extended period."

This strategic decision prioritizes the continuity and stability provided by Acting Superintendent Gillentine while affirming the Board's commitment to a thorough evaluation of candidates when the superintendent search resumes in the spring of 2024. Notably, this approach incurs no additional cost beyond the existing contract with the search firm.

The meeting adjourned at 7:18 PM.

  1. Postpone because they couldn’t find anyone that’s wants to come here probably and go thru all the mess

  2. Was wondering if the results of the on- line survey that i know MANY people filled out on what they would like to see in a superintendent and the positives and negatives of our school district are public? And where we can find them.

    1. The question is not “What is Brenham ISD doing”, it is “Where are they going” !? Anybody have an idea? Odd events…
