CITY OF BRENHAM URGES RESIDENTS TO MAKE WINTER PREPARATIONS

As residents brace for a steep drop in temperature and a freeze late this weekend and early next week, the City of Brenham is making preparations and asking the public to do the same.

Anyone with vacant properties can now arrange for water shut-off by calling Brenham City Hall at 979-337-7400.  Requests must be made by 3 p.m. tomorrow (Friday).  Cut-off fees will be waived for vacant properties until Wednesday, January 17th.

Homeowners are strongly encouraged to take winterizing precautions, including:

  • Getting acquainted with the water shutoff location;
  • Draining pipes when water is turned off;
  • Insulating pipes and any outdoor water sources;
  • Creating and storing an emergency water supply for washing, drinking, and flushing;
  • Allowing water to drip, not stream, during freezing temperatures;
  • Opening cabinets under sinks to facilitate warm air circulation;
  • Making provisions for outdoor animals.

Commercial property owners are also advised to winterize their backflow devices.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has issued a Weather Watch from Monday to Wednesday due to forecasts of extreme cold weather, high demand for electricity and a potential for lower reserves.  Grid conditions are expected to be normal, and there is currently no call for energy conservation.
