BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO HEAR AUDIT REPORT

An audit report will lead Thursday’s agenda for the Brenham City Council.

Councilmembers will receive the annual audit from Seidel Schroeder for the past fiscal year, which ended September 30th.  State law requires that all general-purpose local governments publish a complete set of audited financial statements within six months of the close of the fiscal year.

The report is part of what is otherwise a relatively routine regular session agenda, though there are other items of note.  At the start of the meeting, the council will recognize the Brenham Police Department’s Lloyd Powell.  Powell was promoted last summer to assistant chief and served as acting chief in the absence of Ron Parker, who is now retiring

On the consent agenda, there will be the second reading of an ordinance amending the rate tariff schedules for the city’s water services.  The water rate increases, which are effective starting April 1st, were approved without extended discussion by the council at its March 7th meeting.  Councilmembers will also perform the second reading of an item changing the zoning district from a single-family residential district to a planned development district for approximately 28.09 acres of land at the northwest corner of West Jefferson Street and North Saeger Street for the Wilkins Valley subdivision.

Additionally, the council will meet in executive session to discuss personnel matters pertaining to the position of fire chief and consult with the city attorney about the Brenham Municipal Airport.  No action is scheduled to be taken.

In other business, councilmembers will:

  • Consider accepting a bid related to Carrington Lane roadway and drainage improvements.
  • Act on a customer services contract with the Lower Colorado River Authority for tree trimming services to be provided by McCoy Tree Surgery, Inc.
  • Potentially grant a non-exclusive franchise to Waste Solutions USA, LLC to operate a roll-off container service for residents, businesses and industries inside city limits.

The council will meet Thursday at 1 p.m. at Brenham City Hall.
