SIX CALLS WEDNESDAY FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPT.

The Brenham Fire Department responded to six calls on Wednesday.

Three of those calls were reports of alarms.  The first was shortly after 9:30 a.m., when the department was dispatched to Argent Court Assisted Living, 2815 Victory Lane.  Nothing was showing from the exterior of the building, but firefighters later found a boosted sprinkler pipe.  Maintenance was on scene repairing the pipe and the alarm was reset.

The next two calls were at the Brenham State Supported Living Center, 4001 Highway 36 South, occurring around 2:15 p.m. and both within the span of 10 minutes.  In both instances, units were cancelled enroute after dispatch advised it was a resident who pulled the alarm during a behavioral issue.

At 3 p.m., BFD members were called out to North Chappell Hill Street and East Academy Street for a transportation incident.  They made location to find a two-vehicle accident with injuries, so they started first aid until EMS arrived.  No fluids were leaking, and the department cleared the scene to respond to another call.

Around 3:15 p.m., a report of a structure fire came in at the Olde Oaks Apartments, 1500 Farewell Street.  Firefighters did not find anything showing from the outside of the apartment, and upon checking the inside, they found a light haze but no signs of fire or smoke.  It was later confirmed that the haze inside was from the City of Brenham smoke testing the sewer lines, so units returned to the station.

Just past 5:45 p.m., the department was sent out to the 400 block of West Tom Green Street for a report of smoke in the area.  Units discovered the smoke coming from the 400 block of West Valverde Street.  Firefighters spoke with a homeowner who was burning limbs in the backyard and advised the owner of city ordinance before returning to service.  The homeowner put out the fire with a water hose.
