CHANGE IN TIME, LOCATION FOR SOME SMITHSONIAN EXHIBIT RIBBON CUTTINGS

The ribbon cuttings scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday) for the new exhibits opening in Brenham as part of the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street program are seeing some changes.

City of Brenham Tourism and Marketing Director Jennifer Eckermann says that, due to concerns about the weather, the two ribbon cuttings scheduled at Jerry Wilson Park and in Belle’s Alley are being relocated and combined into one event.  It will be held at 9 a.m. inside Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church, 204 Kerr Street.

The ribbon cutting at The Barnhill Center will still be held at 10 a.m. and is not changing locations.

The ribbon cuttings commemorate the opening of the local exhibits developed alongside the “Crossroads: Change in Rural America” exhibit, which will be open starting tomorrow through Sunday, January 19, 2025 at The Barnhill Center’s Morriss Hall.

The exhibit at Belle’s Alley tells the story of the numerous Freedom Colonies established in Washington County after the Civil War.

The exhibit at Jerry Wilson Park, the Camptown Soundwalk Experience, focuses on the earliest Freedom Colony in Washington County and includes a tour with sounds and stories of the area.

The exhibit at The Barnhill Center, A Century of Simon, showcases the long and colorful history of the Simon Theatre.
