CUB BASEBALL SWEEPS LAKE CREEK WITH A 7-3 WIN AT FIREMAN’S PARK

Brenham got it started in the bottom of the first inning by scoring five runs. Dalton Hart led it off with an opposite field solo home run. After the next batter, Owen Finke, bunted for a base hit, Drake Bentke came up the plate and slugged a two-run homer to give the Cubs an early 3-0 lead.
The inning continued with Ethan Aschenbeck reaching on an error, and Luke Hardy hit an opposite field single. Bleu Cienega laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners up. Brody Tucker followed with an RBI single to score Aschenbeck. Brayden Steele reached on an error, which allowed Hardy to score. The made the score 5-0 Brenham.
The Brenham Cub Baseball Team remained unbeaten in District 17-5A competition after a 7-3 victory over the Lake Creek Lions last (Friday) night.
The score would remain that way until the top of the fourth inning when Lake Creek scored their first run of the game to trim the Cub lead to 5-1.
In the bottom of the fourth, Tucker and Steele got things started with back-to-back singles. Caleb Maurer came in as a courtesy runner for Tucker, and he then stole third base. Hart would later bring him home on a sacrifice fly make it 6-1 Brenham.
In the top of the fifth inning, a couple of Cub errors led to Lake Creek getting a second run, which trimmed the Brenham advantage 6-2.
The Cubs got the run back in the bottom of the fifth on a solo homer by Bentke, which made it 7-2.
Lake Creek managed just one more run in the top of the seventh inning that cut the Brenham advantage to 7-3.
Steele went the distance for the Cubs to get the win.
Next week, Brenham will start a series with the Huntsville Hornets. They will be playing on Tuesday in Huntsville, and then Friday at Fireman's Park.
