BURTON CROSS COUNTRY AT THE MIDNIGHT SUN

The Burton Panther Cross Country team continued their 2026 season this Thursday with a night run hosted by Cameron ISD on their junior high campus. 

The Lady Panthers set out first, under the glow of the stadium lights, on the Varsity Girls 3k course. Normally, high school girls run 3200 meters (2 miles) but the course is shortened for an early season meet. Finishing first for the ladies and first overall was meet champion Paisley Goldberg (Fr.) with a course time of 12:20. Hot on her heels was teammate Isis Schulte (Fr.), finishing 15th overall with a 13:22. Captain Autumn Applewhite (Jr.) was third for the ladies with a 13:51. Kinley Frank (Jr.) and Rose Nall (Fr.) rounded out the top five for Burton with a 14:28 and 16:02 respectively. The Lady Panthers were also represented by Madison Helton (Sr.), Isabelle Alvarado (Fr.), Jessica Strickland (Fr.), and Dani York (Fr.). 

The Panthers followed on the Varsity Boy's 4000 meter course, 1000 meters shorter than normal. Leading the way for the Panthers was Even Guerrero (So.) with a 16:04. Klein Rhodes (So.) finished second among the Panthers with a 16:38. The top five for the Panthers was rounded out in quick succession by Matthias Countouriotis (Fr.) with a 18:01, Dylan Dallmeyer (Jr.) 18:10, and James Jarvis (So.) in 18:13. The Panthers were also represented by Colton Vickers (So.) and Augustus Shuey (Jr.).

The Panthers continue their season this coming Saturday, August 29th with a trip to Caldwell's Davidson Creek Park for a District Preview course.
