The Brenham Historic Preservation Board will potentially act on the demolition of an old warehouse building on the south side of downtown at its meeting on Wednesday.

(City of Brenham)
Board members will hold a public hearing before considering a Certificate of Appropriateness (CoA) application regarding the metal structure at the southwest corner of West First Street and South Park Street.
The vacant structure was built in 1912, and the property holding it has changed hands several times since 2012. The new owner of the property is Pressley Walcik, who recently purchased it from David Sanders.

Following that, board members will take up another CoA application, this one for new construction of a structure covering an outdoor barbecue smoker at 209 South Market Street, the former location of 4 Star Concert Hall.
The barbecue smoker cover is planned in the courtyard adjoining the main building and would be used for cooking for the new Sweet Ivy’s Café and The Southern Folly, an event and music venue. The owner of the property is Adrienne Schwartz, who purchased the property from the former owner’s estate.
City staff recommends approval of both CoA applications.
Following action in regular session, the board will go into work session for an administrative report.
The board will meet Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Brenham City Hall.

My humble opinion on the old warehouse is to utilize it somehow its been there since 1912 abs STILL STANDING says alot of the construction. To replace it with a barbecue shack is ridiculous. At a time when we are supposed to use “reclaimed ” wood, stone and such…maybe think again on a new plan and give it face-lift. It is part of history of that area since 1912. I bet what ever replaces it will not stand anywhere around that long.
Bob, these are two different items. The BBQ pit will be an addition to the restaurant going into the old 4 star building and has nothing to do with the demolition of the old warehouse. Just wanted to clarify. Thanks.
