The council selected Entrust Solutions Group at a cost not to exceed $61,000 for the inspection of 641 wood poles, labeling any poles that either need immediate or scheduled replacement or can be reinforced.

City of Brenham Electric Superintendent Jason Lange said the inspection will look for any poles that have rotted, in order to address any concerns with pole integrity.

Lange said his department hopes to transition out of using wood poles and move toward using metal or composite poles, as while the latter tend to be more expensive, they can also last for decades longer.  He said it will ultimately depend on what the budget can support.

Also at today’s meeting, the council approved two specific use permit requests from property owners wanting to build accessory dwelling units (ADUs) at 1604 Eldon Street and 1306 Ewing Street.  The requests were both approved with conditions to provide additional parking accommodations, including a dedicated off-street parking space of concrete or asphalt for the ADU on Eldon Street and two off-street parking spaces for the primary home on Ewing Street.

In other business, the council:

  • Held executive session discussion on three items, including consulting with an attorney regarding Dustyn Banik, Alma Sanchez and Gerran Banik v. City of Brenham, Texas; Civil Action No. 4:25-cv-2487; United States District Court, Southern District of Texas, Houston Division.  The other two items were consultation with an attorney concerning claims of illegality of the downtown parklet located in the 200 block of Park Street, along with discussion regarding the purchase, exchange or acquisition of real property for City of Brenham Electric Department improvements and facilities.  No action was scheduled to be taken on any of the discussion.
