18-WHEELER OVERTURNS IN FATAL COLLISION ON HIGHWAY 36 NEAR BRENHAM

  

An Austin man was killed in a crash involving an 18-wheeler Wednesday night, north of Brenham.

The accident occurred just before 7:30 p.m. on Highway 36, near Lucky Lane.

According to DPS Sergeant Justin Ruiz, a 2007 Pontiac Torrent SUV was traveling southbound on Highway 36 when, for an undetermined reason, it crossed the roadway into the northbound lanes and struck a 2016 Freightliner truck tractor semi-trailer.  The Pontiac came to rest on its left side, while the Freightliner overturned.

The driver of the Pontiac, 35-year-old Logan Manning, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Freightliner sustained minor injuries and was transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Brenham.

DPS continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
