BUCCANEERS FINISH STRONG IN 3-1 WIN OVER MONTERREY TECH

Giulia Hortelan tallies 11 kills and 15 digs in the victory

LAREDO, Texas — The Blinn College volleyball team (28-6, 3-5) finished the day strong with a 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-20, 26-24) win over Monterrey Tech on Friday in Laredo.
Earlier in the day, the Buccaneers fell to Laredo College, 3-1 (25-20, 17-25, 22-25, 17-25).

Laredo 3 – Blinn 1
Laredo notched a come-from-behind win and defeated Blinn, 3-1, to open the day.
Essence Clerkley led Blinn with 14 kills and Taylor Henderson followed with 10. Jenni Liu led the Buccaneers with 33 assists and recorded seven digs, while Chloe Mullins totaled 18 digs.
Blinn opened the match with a 25-20 win as Brooke Borden, Tatum Smidovec and Mullins combined for 10 digs to fight off Laredo.
The Palominos evened the match 1-1 by taking Blinn down in the second set, 25-17. Laredo led the match after defeating Blinn 25-22 in the third set, and finished the Buccaneers with a 25-17 victory in the fourth set.

Blinn 3 – Monterrey Tech 1
The Buccaneers finished the day strong with a 3-1 win over Monterrey Tech.
Giulia Hortelan recorded 11 kills and 15 digs to lead the Buccaneers. Clerkley tallied 10 kills and seven block assists, Rachel Barnett came up with 10 kills, and Kaitlyn Pollard recorded 37 assists. Mullins led Blinn with 18 digs in the win.
Blinn opened the match with a 25-17 win, but Monterrey Tech fought back to even the match by defeating the Buccaneers, 25-22.
Clerkley and Barnett combined for seven kills, while Mullins and Hortelan tallied nine digs in the third set for the Buccaneers to grab a 25-20 victory. Monterrey Tech and Blinn played a close fourth set, but the Buccaneers managed to hold on for a 26-24 win.

Next, Blinn will finish the regular season on the road against Coastal Bend College on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 2 p.m.
