Brenham Cubettes softball coach Katie Roberts was overall pretty pleased with Tuesday’s opening scrimmage of the 2020 season.

The Cubettes hosted perennial 4A playoff teams Bellville and LaGrange.

Roberts was particularly pleased with returning starter Kramer Eschete, who reached base every at bat.

As a whole, Roberts says the Cubettes were disciplined as a whole at the plate; execution of signals got better throughout the night; and the team got more comfortable in their positions defensively.

She also said, “a few girls really hit the ball hard; we were aggressive on the bases; Maggie Hodde threw two girls out at home from LF; and we kept the ball low pitching wise which produced a lot of ground balls.”

Roberts says there were also a number of things that need work, including: “Defensively we committed way too many errors that were routine plays; I would like for us to work on routines and having a plan each at bat; Baserunning details also need work.”

Going forward, “We just need more time in our positions and lots of defensive reps to get more comfortable; focus on situational hitting; limiting amounts of walks and errors in the same inning; relax a bit more (we were very nervous as a whole).”

The Cubettes will travel to Bridgeland, Saturday to scrimmage Bridgeland and Klein.
