FIRST COVID-19 PATIENT DIES IN FAYETTE CO.

Fayette County officials have confirmed the county’s first COVID-19 death.

The Fayette County Office of Emergency Management confirmed the death Wednesday in a Schulenberg-area man in his 70s.

Emergency Management Chief Craig Moreau said the man contracted the disease through community spread despite following all recommendations.  The man, according to Moreau, was hospitalized at an out-of-county hospital at the time of his passing.  Moreau said investigation indicated there is no additional risk to the community resulting from this case.

According to the Fayette County Record, a Carmine woman in her 90s who died from complications with COVID-19 Sunday was living in a nursing home in Washington County before her death.  The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) attributed the woman’s death to Washington County.

The county currently has 16 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with nine of those active.  Three patients are hospitalized, while six people have recovered.
