CUBETTES DROP HEARTBREAKER AT MAGNOLIA

A furious comeback by the Magnolia Lady Bulldogs delivered a devastating loss to the Brenham Cubettes, Tuesday night in Magnolia.

Brenham built up a 7-0 lead, only to see Magnolia come all the way back for an 8-7 win.

The Cubettes jumped out to a 5-0 lead after their first at bat.  Maddie Weatherly drove home a run with a single, followed by Reagan Kwiatkowski’s two-run double and an rbi-single by starting pitcher Macie Becker.

Brenham added a run in second inning and another in the third, building their lead to 7-0 and appeared headed to a sure victory.

However, in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Lady Bulldogs began to mount their comeback.

Maddison Monohan drove home a run with a single.  A two-out error led to two more runs, cutting the lead to 7-3.  Codi Carpenter’s rbi-single followed by Taylor Fuselier’s two-run home cut the Brenham lead to one run.

The Cubettes threatened to add some insurance in the top of the seventh, but stranded runners at second and third.

Magnolia completed their comeback in the seventh when Ashley Poimbuff led off the inning with a single off Colleen Bentke, who’d come on in relief of Becker.  Haley Garza reached on a throwing error, followed by a wild pitch that moved the runners to second and third.

Carpenter then ended the game with a bloop down the left field line that fell just in front of a diving Kelly Jurden.  The ball caromed to the left and rolled under the fence for a walk-off ground-rule double.

The loss drops the Cubettes to 12-8 on the season, 6-5 in 19/5A play.

Brenham will play host to Tomball Friday night, 6:45 at Alumni Field.
