VIDEO INTERVIEW WITH BISD SUPERINTENDENT WALTER JACKSON

Beginning with the next school year, the Brenham school district will be assigning incoming students to each of the three elementary campuses.  In the past, parents were allowed to choose which campus they wanted their children to attend.  This has led to a disproportionate number of economically disadvantaged students attending the Alton Elementary campus.

Balancing the demographics on the elementary campuses was one of the five goals developed for the district by its Strategic Planning Committee.  Data from each incoming student to the district will be entered into a computer program that will determine which school the student will attend.  In the video interview above, Brenham Superintendent Dr. Walter Jackson explains what effect a demographic imbalance has on a school, how the program will be implemented, what criteria will be used to determine the campus for each student.
