(Brazos Co. Jail)

Sylvia McMullen, the former president of the Blinn College Brazos Valley campus, has been indicted on credit card abuse charges.

McMullen was booked into the Brazos County jail on Tuesday and was released after posting $10,000 dollars in bonds.

McMullen is accused of making transactions on a card that was not issued to her, and without the Arts Council’s consent, last December.

In January, McMullen said she accidentally used council credit card for about $700 in purchases.  McMullen says she notified the arts council board president and treasurer and gave them a check to cover the charges.

Also in January, McMullen claims she offered her resignation, which was not accepted.  She was then fired a week later.

McMullen served as the Blinn Brazos Valley president from 2013 to 2016.

  1. According to another news site, she claimed she informed them when she realized her mistake, but they claim they discovered it through “internal checks and balances”.

  2. According to the story on a different news site, she said she notified them of her mistake, but they claim they discovered it through “internal checks and balances”.

  3. Can anyone tell me – please tell me – how do you accidentally charge $700 on a card you know that is not yours?

  4. She did more, because if it was a harmless thing, it wouldn’t had made it to the court.

  5. Why are they prosecuting her? Sounds like an abuse of power and someone with a vendetta. SMH these DA’s need to go back to school! Or there is way much more to this story that is being released!!!

  6. Seems to be useless waste of time and money to prosecute this case based of this story. Is there more untold? If not then what’s the point?

    1. Arthur, So let me get this straight Since SHE said that she only charged $700 and she payed it back then no charges should be filed. So with your logic if any person that is charged with a crime and they say ” I did not do it” we should not charge them. Also if you read the story you are only getting her side of the story. The Brazos County court has not released the full information about the case.

      1. Based upon the information in the article, it does appear to be an innocent mistake. She stated she “did it” said it was a mistake and paid the money back. If she notified them in a timely manner and paid it back timely, no harm was done. If the prosecution has more information that changes the context of the story that will come out during the prosecution of the case, however looking only at what is written here, I don’t see a crime.

    2. The story is much more clear in case there no other hidden facts. I do not personally see any reason to sueing her for a problem that have already been solved.
We should be caring about people’s reputation!!
