SEVERAL ACRES BURNED IN GRASS FIRE NEAR BURTON

An estimated four to five acres burned in a grass fire Tuesday afternoon north of Burton.

According to Burton Volunteer Fire Department Captain Kurt Jasinski, firefighters were called around 4 p.m. to a grass fire off of FM 1948, across from St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg.

The Burton, Rocky Creek and Berlin Volunteer Fire Departments responded, and found an acre and a half burning when they arrived.

Jasinski said the fire was growing quickly due to thick grasses and dead or downed trees.  Hand crews had to be called in to stop the spread of the fire, which was moving through dense brush.

Firefighters stayed on scene for about three hours to extinguish the blaze.

Although multiple structures were threatened, none were damaged.  No injuries were reported.
