BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD MEETING MONDAY

The Brenham School Board will receive the results of the intruder audit report Thursday at the School Safety and Security Committee Meeting, but the public will not. Jay Huffty, Director of Safety and Security for the District, told the School Board Monday evening that he will protect that information in the interest of student and staff safety.
The upcoming bond issue was also on the minds of trustees. Paul Aschenbeck, Director of Facilities and Maintenance, presented the board with three experts who reported on the current Junior High School. The concrete expert said the school is structurally sound, but continued water exposure could cause the concrete to weaken. The roof expert said the current roof, which is 19 years old, could be made to last a few more years with maintenance, but should be replaced if the bond fails again. The plumbing expert said the plumbing is dated and needs repair, but parts are no longer available for it. Superintendent Dr. Tylor Chaplin said it was like a 1963 Chevy Pick-up Truck, it cost a lot of money to keep it running.
In other action, the board heard an update on the Parent Square software. Communications Coordinator Brooke Trahan told the trustees she is very pleased with the parent communications software, as it is helping clean-up data used in other programs. Trustees also approved a donation to the district for the mini-grant program of $114,000. The donation comes from the Brenham ISD Education Foundation.
The Board also held a public meeting for the annual School “FIRST” financial accountability rating for Brenham ISD. The District has had a Superior Achievement rating for 19 of the past 20 years.
