Unity Theatre in Brenham is celebrating the coming of the holidays with its next Main Stage performance, Coney Island Christmas.

Based on the story, “The Loudest Voice” by Grace Paley, the holiday play from Donald Margulies takes the stage at Unity beginning tomorrow (Thursday) and continuing through December 18th.

An older Shirley Abramowitz tells her great-granddaughter the story of when she was cast in the role of Jesus in her school’s Christmas pageant.  As a young Jewish girl, her immigrant parents are horrified and will not allow her to participate.  Weaving together nostalgia, music and merriment, the story is for people of all ages and faiths, and shows what it means to be an American during the holidays.

Showtimes are Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.  Tomorrow night’s preview performance will have a talk-back session with the cast and crew after the show, while Unity Theatre’s Executive Artistic Director, Kate Revnell-Smith, will hold a director’s chat half an hour before the show on December 10th.
