CITY OF GIDDINGS GOING TO MANDATORY WATER RESTRICTIONS

The City of Giddings has gone into Stage 2 Water Restrictions after discovering that one of their four water wells has suddenly become inoperable.

With the well being inoperable, that means 500 fewer gallons per minute is being pumped into the storage tanks.

The City is asking Giddings residents, effective immediately, to implement mandatory water use restrictions.

The plan includes:

Customers with an address ending in an even number should limit the irrigation of their landscaped areas to Sundays and Thursdays.

Customers with an address ending in an odd number should limit the irrigation of their landscaped areas to Saturdays and Wednesdays.

They recommend doing the irrigation between the hours of 8pm to midnight, or midnight to 10am on designated days.

Water customers are asked to minimize or discontinue water use for non-essential purposes.

According to the City of Giddings website, irrigation of landscaped areas is permitted at anytime if it is by means of a hand-held hose, a faucet filled bucket, a watering can that is five gallons or less, or a drip irrigation system.

With the water shortage, the Giddings Splash Pad is going to be closed for the rest of the summer.  However, the municipal swimming pool, which more or less has a static amount of water, will remain open.

Plans are underway to begin drilling for a replacement well, which city officials hope will start within the next 21 days.

  1. With the growth of new housing in Giddings. Would it not be wise to plan & put into place another water tower & more than 1 water supply well?
