BRENHAM ISD TO INTERVIEW FIVE CANDIDATES FOR SUPT. POSITION

The Brenham School Board has narrowed down its list of candidates for the school superintendent position.

After meeting in executive session for several hours on Wednesday to go through the list of applications received, trustees chose five applicants to interview.

Information on individual candidates was not provided, and the full number of people who applied was not immediately available.

Candidate interviews are scheduled to begin on Monday, November 6th, and a finalist is expected to be named on Friday, November 17th.  A vote by the board to hire the candidate would come on Monday, December 11th, in time for the spring 2024 semester.

Brenham ISD is working with the Texas Association of School Boards through the search process.

Clay Gillentine has been serving as acting superintendent since a special school board meeting on October 2nd.  Former superintendent Dr. Tylor Chaplin originally planned to retire at the end of December, but left the position earlier than announced.

Prior to trustees going into executive session, residents came forward during public comment to present a copy of a petition requesting a state audit of Brenham ISD’s 2022-23 financial results.  The petition, initiated by Citizens United for Brenham Schools, received 683 signatures of Washington County residents within three weeks.  The petition is also being submitted to State Senator Lois Kolkhorst and State Representative Kyle Kacal.
