ANOTHER STRONG MONTH OF SALES TAX REBATES FOR BURTON; BRENHAM’S REBATES ALSO UP, BUT COUNTY’S DOWN

  

Sales and tax distributions for the month of April were high again for the City of Burton, while the City of Brenham saw a modest increase and Washington County’s numbers were down.

After a record-setting March for Burton where it collected $29,912, the city’s rebate this month was $12,712, an increase of 54.91 percent from last April’s total of $8,206.  So far this year, the city has received $67,010, up 78.03 percent compared to last year’s payments-to-date of $37,638.

Brenham’s April rebate was $786,740, up 7.53 percent from the $731,637 received in April 2023.  Through the first four months of 2024, the city’s totals are up by 8.52 percent from the same timeframe a year ago, at $3,297,304 versus $3,038,280.

Washington County received $355,598 in April, down 3.83 percent from last April, when it brought in $369,776.  To date, the county’s rebates add up to $1,489,112, a decrease of 2.79 percent from the $1,531,961 collected at this time last year. 

Comptroller Glenn Hegar reported that the state’s sales tax allocations to local entities added up to $1.03 billion, up 5.5 percent from last April and up 2 percent for the year so far.
