LEE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE INVESTIGATES TWO UNRELATED DEATHS
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office investigated two unrelated fatal incidents that occurred prior to the weekend.
On Thursday, shortly after 2pm, the Sheriff’s Office received a call requesting medical personnel at an oilfield site located off of FM 2440, just outside of Giddings.
Deputies and Lee County EMS personnel were dispatched to the scene. Upon their arrival, deputies located a deceased male victim that was later identified as 62-year-old Jeffrey Kieffer of Lexington.
Investigators determined that Kieffer received fatal injuries as the result of colliding with a piece of heavy equipment. The exact cause and manner of death remain under investigation.
Lee County Precinct Two Justice of the Peace Michael York was summoned to hold an inquest. The body was sent to the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office in Austin for an autopsy.
The second incident was reported on Friday morning at 9am. Sheriff’s Deputies and EMS personnel were dispatched to an address on County Road 402 near Dime Box.
Deputies found a young child with severe injuries. The child was transported by EMS to a hospital in Austin, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Investigators determined that the child received the injuries after colliding with a vehicle in the family driveway.
According to Sheriff Garrett Durrenberger, based on the findings of the investigation, there is no evidence of foul play.
