WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO ACCEPT ESD PETITION, SCHEDULE PUBLIC HEARING

The process to place a proposition before voters for the creation of an emergency services district (ESD) for the Chappell Hill and Meyersville Volunteer Fire Departments is starting back up.

Washington County Commissioners will meet Tuesday to record the acceptance of a petition for the creation of the ESD, set a public hearing and issue necessary notices.

The ESD would levy an ad valorem tax of no more than $0.10 per $100 valuation on residents living within the service territories of the Chappell Hill and Meyersville VFDs, not including the City of Brenham’s extraterritorial jurisdiction.

Commissioners were set to hold a public hearing on August 13th and vote upon placing a measure for the ESD on the November 2024 ballot.  However, the hearing was cancelled due to insufficient notice posted in the local newspaper, and there was not enough time before the election to post notice and schedule another public hearing, so the process had to be pushed back to the May 2025 election.

The first notice of a hearing must be published 21 days before the hearing, with the second notice published the following week.  The last day to order an election for the May 3, 2025 ballot is Friday, February 14th

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, commissioners will recognize the officials, staff and volunteers who helped coordinate the November 5th election.

A slate of monthly reports will be presented by the sheriff’s office, county and district clerks, justices of the peace, auditor, tax assessor-collector, treasurer, constables and veterans service office.

In other business, the court will consider:

  • A bid modification from LaRoche Chevrolet for six fleet vehicle purchases.
  • A subdivision variance request for a land division consisting of 7.101 acres fronting Highway 105 and FM 390 in Precinct 1.
  • A subdivision variance request for a land division consisting of 10.09 acres fronting FM 50 in Precinct 1.
  • A subdivision variance request for a land division consisting of 5 acres fronting Old Independence Road in Precinct 3.
  • A subdivision variance request for a land division consisting of 31.018 acres fronting Nixon Lake Road in Precinct 4.
  • Accepting and adding Crestview Lane (0.438 miles) in Precinct 2 into the county road system.
  • Accepting and adding Orchard Oaks Lane (0.385 miles) in Precinct 3 into the county road system.
  • Discussion of a formal notice from Texas Water Utilities for new service line installation across the county right-of-way of Airport Road in Precinct 1.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.
