BISD TO SET TAX RATE MONDAY

The Brenham School District is expected to approve a tax rate for the 2018 fiscal year when they meet Monday afternoon.

The school board is likely to adopt a tax rate that is one-cent lower than the current rate—but will still generate more tax revenue.

Property rolls increased by nearly $175-million over the past year, meaning a slightly lower tax rate will still bring in more money to the district.

The current tax rate is $1.135 per hundred dollars valuation.

Also Monday, the board will hold a budget workshop as well as set the dates for public hearings on the budget.

Trustees will also discuss Brenham’s designation as a “rich” school district, which would obligate them to share tax revenue with “poor” districts.

The BISD Board of Trustees meets Monday at noon in the district’s administrative offices at 711 Mansfield Street.

  1. Thanks for being good stewards of tax payer dollars BISD Board!!!

I was wondering if the taxing entities in Washington County would do the right thing with all the new revenue from appraisals. But the School Board is the only one that’s done the right thing so far. Correct me if I’m wrong but the City Council wants even more money than the tax increases that came with the appraisal values and I don’t think the Commissioners reduced the rate at all (which amounts to an increase in taxes).

    1. Christopher,
You are correct. Unfortunately, if You find another continent, we would all be ready to take the boat trip to that new world. Yep, 525 years later, and we are back in the same mess when America was discovered and just 242 years after the United States Declared our Independence. This is pitiful. It is time to drain the swamp. I believe it is time for an independent citizens watchdog committee. Especially with the recent hyper growth of or city government that is outpacing our population and plagued with selective enforcement.
