CUBETTES TAKE HOME FINALE OVER HUNTSVILLE, 5-1

The Brenham Cubettes continued their quest to finish up a tough season on a high note, as they downed Huntsville, 6-1 Tuesday night at Alumni Field.

The win gives the team a chance to close out the season with three wins in their final four games if they can beat Caney Creek on the road, Thursday night.

Pitcher Colleen Bentke (3-4) made her second start since returning from a broken thumb that sidelined her for nearly two months.  She gave up just one run on three hits and struck out eight while going the distance.

The Cubettes (12-14/5-10) trailed 1-0 in the bottom of the third inning, when Macie Becker’s two-out, two-run single gave Brenham the lead, 2-1.

They extended that lead in the fourth, when Shannon Loukanis tripled home Annie Cangelosi.

Becker would drive in her third run of the game with a fifth-inning rbi-single.  She then scored on Bentke’s double.

It was also the final home game for the Cubettes’ lone senior, Rachel Butler.

First year head coach Jamie Maurer lauded Butler as player that every team needs, “…she’s always early to practice and one of the last to leave.  She never complained about playing time.  She was always willing to do anything she could to make the team better.”

“All the players just absolutely love her,” said Maurer.

The Cubettes will close out the season Thursday night when they travel to Caney Creek.  First pitch is at 7:00.
