SEN. KOLKHORST PRAISES WITHDRAWAL OF PINTAIL LANDFILL FROM WALLER COUNTY

Pintail Landfill LLC has agreed to withdraw its application for a landfill in Waller County, to the approval of Brenham Senator Lois W. Kolkhorst.

Senator Kolkhorst praised the recent announcement that the controversial landfill proposal will officially be withdrawn by the landowners.  The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality application requested a landfill on Highway 6 in Waller County.

Senator Kolkhorst spoke directly with Pintail Landfill representatives, citing her years of experience with Citizens Against the Landfill in Hempstead (CALH).  She was officially informed early Monday morning that the corporation will no longer pursue construction of the facility, which has garnered substantial criticism and protest.

Senator Kolkhorst attributed the step-back to pressure from the public, saying the landfill proposal was defeated because of the “unwavering support of a citizen group who banded together to launch a self-funded legal battle against a corporate giant.”

Opponents of the landfill argued that the idea would pose great risks to groundwater resources and stop development in this part of Texas.  The TCEQ had returned the original Pintail application in 2015, due to errors discovered by CALH members. Since then, multiple lawsuits took place between the opponents and Pintail, and Kolkhorst subsequently filed legislation in 2017 to address the conflict.

  1. Greetings: #wethepeople has demonstrated persistence and right does overcome. What has happened here is a blueprint for standing up against environmental injustice. I hope to visit the community again soon, even the site and experience what victory feels like when people do not simply give in.

    1. This isn’t “standing up against environmental injustice.” This is pushing something you don’t like in your backyard into someone else’s.

  2. Thank you Senator Lois Kolkhorst! This is nothing short of a miracle. Nearly every landfill application is usually approved so this is a big victory for Waller County citizens.

  3. Thanks to the hundreds of citizens who donated hard earned money that paid for the lawyers needed to fight the landfill. Their dedication to the fight got the job done. They knew keeping the water supply clean for Texas is good for our entire state. God bless them.
