“DADDY LONG LEGS” PREMIERING AT UNITY THEATRE FEBRUARY 13TH

Unity Theatre in Brenham is planning to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a romantic musical.

Coming to Unity Theatre’s Main Stage from February 13th to March 1st is “Daddy Long Legs”, a “rags to riches” tale of love.  With music and lyrics by Paul Gordon and book by John Caird, this feel-good story is adapted from the Jean Webster novel, which inspired the 1955 movie starring Fred Astaire.

Jerusha Abbot is the “oldest orphan in the John Grier Home” until a mysterious benefactor decides to send her to college to be educated as a writer. Abbot is required to write him a letter once a month, but she cannot know his identity, so she invents one for him: Daddy Long Legs.  Although she knows he will never respond to her letters, she grows fonder of this elusive and kindly gentleman, while another relationship begins to develop in her life.

The Guest Artist Workshop presented during the run of “Daddy Long Legs” will be held February 22nd from 2 to 4 p.m., taught by Shanae’a Moore.  The class, “What the Music Tells Me”, will take a look at how to interpret music, and is for middle school and high school students.

“Daddy Long Legs” plays on the Main Stage for three weeks at Unity Theatre, premiering with a preview performance on February 13th that includes a talk-back with the cast and crew after the show.  Director Andrew Ruthven will host a chat prior to the show on the evening of February 22nd.  Show times are Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 4 p.m.

Tickets are $30 and they are reserved; however, student tickets are always $15, and any unsold seats are $15 at 15 minutes prior to any performance. Circle Member reservations began Monday.  Subscribers can begin making their reservations Monday, January 27th, and tickets go on sale to the public February 3rd.  To learn more, or to purchase tickets, visit www.unitybrenham.org.
