MARGARET E. BLIZZARD SENIOR CENTER TO CLOSE THURSDAY

Effective Thursday, the Margaret E. Blizzard Senior Center will be closed, and will remain closed until further notice, due to COVID-19.

In a statement Monday, the Washington County Healthy Living Association (WCHLA) says it wants seniors to stay in their homes and not be potentially exposed to the virus.  The WCHLA has also announced the rose shop is closed.

The Senior Center will have volunteers and staff answering phones and taking “orders” for necessities, such as bread, eggs, butter, toilet paper, frozen meals, and other essential items.

Seniors can call on Mondays beginning March 23rd from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to give the Senior Center their information.  Thursdays through Sundays they can call 979-836-6552, 979-203-6372, or 979-203-8947 and leave a message with their name, phone number, and their order.  The Senior Center will call on the following Monday if there are any questions.

Pick-up for items will be on Tuesdays starting March 24th from 10 a.m. to noon.  Seniors must present their Senior Center membership in order to receive their order; no orders will go out without the membership card.

Those picking up the order will need to hold their card up to their window for Senior Center staff to see, who will then place the order in the back seat of their car.  Children, friends, or neighbors can come pick up orders for seniors, if they are unable to.  If no one is available to pick up an order, the Senior Center will deliver on Wednesdays beginning March 25th, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Orders will be for a one-week supply for each member, to go out every week.  There is no need to call each week unless there is a change to the order; if there is a change, call Thursday through Monday and leave a message with the change.

The WCHLA says it wants to reach its most vulnerable members, and asks only for those in need of assistance to ask for it.
