COUNTY COMMISSIONERS HIRE KEESE AND ASSOCIATES ARCHITECTURAL FIRM

Washington County Commissioners will bring in Keese and Associates architectural firm for repairs and remodeling to the county Expo Annex and Event Center.  Because of the extensive repairs that are needed from the February freeze, the state is requiring the county to hire an architecture firm.  Keese and Associates will be brought into the project without bids due to an exemption and because they were the original architect on the buildings.  The work is being fast-tracked to be completed by this year’s County Fair in September.

Commissioners also approved hiring an intern for office work and a part time maintenance worker for the Expo Center. The positions will be paid for through the contingency fund.

Commissioners also received a quarterly report from Susan Cates on Economic Development.  She stated that March was a very busy month with several Houston firms looking to build spec buildings for industrial occupation in the county.

Commissioners also awarded a bid to Larry Young Paving for road re-construction of a portion of Old Mill Creek Road.  They awarded $603,397 under an 80/20 CTIF Grant.  The road, which sees heavy oilfield traffic will be constructed with a thicker base and a concrete curve to hold up longer.

Commissioners also approved:

  • A Resolution recognizing April as the Month of the Military Child.
  • The County Engineer to advertise for sealed bids for rehabilitation of roads and parking lots. The work will include projects that the county staff does not have time to complete.
  • Road Bores in Precinct 1 and 3
  • A Temporary Water Line on Quail Run Road in Precinct 3.
  • Received monthly reports from the Sheriff’s Office, EMS, Dispatch, the county IT Department, and Veterans Services
Vicki Wehmeyer from the American Legion Auxiliary accepts the resolution recognizing April as Month of the Military Child from the County Commissioners and their staff.
