BRYAN MAN SENTENCED IN FATAL HIT AND RUN CRASH

Pedro Puga (Brazos County Jail)

A drunk driver that was involved in a 2019 fatal hit and run crash in College Station will be spending the next 15 years in prison.

20 year old Pedro Puga of Bryan was sentenced in Brazos County District Court on second degree felony charges of Manslaughter and Accident Involving Death (Hit & Run).

On September 14, 2019, Puga struck and killed 19 year old Carly Beatty with his car as she and her roommates were walking back to their townhome on Texas Avenue around 2am.

Puga never stopped or slowed down his vehicle.

Beatty was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, and later life-flighted to Houston. She died from her injuries a week later.

College Station Police caught up to Puga in a parking lot where he tried to run from them on foot.

A backpack with a handgun that Puga threw into some nearby bushes was recovered at the scene.

Officers got a search warrant and tested his blood alcohol concentration. Three hours after the initial incident, Puga still tested at .032.

Puga also tested positive for THC, cocaine metabolites, and Etizolam, which is similar to Xanax,  but is not available in the U.S.
