WASHINGTON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS MULL OVER ESTABLISHING BRYAN MEDICAL EXAMINER OFFICE

Washington County and the seven counties in the Brazos Valley Council of Governments will be deciding whether to spend $3500 on a feasibility study on whether to establish a Medical Examiner’s office in Bryan. Currently, autopsies for the area are being performed in either Travis County or Montgomery County.

Travis County has decided that they need to build on to their building due to overcrowding, and want to the counties using their facilities to pay their “fair share” to help in improving their facilities, according to County Judge John Brieden.

Currently an autopsy cost $2800 to perform, not counting other expenses such as fuel cost getting the body to and from Travis County.

The question that would be posed to Travis County would be “how many autopsies do you do,” and “how much does it cost?”

The Brazos Valley Council of Governments includes Washington, Grimes, Brazos, Burleson, Robertson, Leon, and Madison Counties.

This topic will be discussed in more detail at the Washington County Commissioner’s meeting tomorrow (Tues) at the Washington County Courthouse at 9am.
