Dr. Gary Gabriel, a candidate running for mayor against current Brenham Mayor Milton Tate, has announced that as of April 21st,  he is withdrawing from the May 9th election.

Gabriel announced that “there is an alleged incident that has been brought to my attention, and will require my full focus for an indefinite period of time.”

After speaking with Gabriel this morning, he went on to say that  “no charges have been filed,” but refused to elaborate more, other than to say that he is troubled by the timing of this incident, and that the incident is being investigated at this time.

Gabriel's name will still appear on the May ballot.

Brenham City Secretary Jeana Bellinger says the deadline to withdraw from the election was March 4.  So, while Gabriel has withdrawn from the campaign, his name will still appear on the ballot, opposite Mayor Milton Tate.
