POLICE CHIEF ADRESSES ANIMAL SHELTER CONCERNS

Brenham Police Chief Craig Goodman says the City of Brenham is working on a response to questions and complaints raised by a local citizen.

Chief Goodman, who oversees the operation of the Brenham Animal Shelter, says the City is always open to suggestions and good ideas from the public.  He says the Animal Shelter has actually implemented some of the suggestions made by Carol Jensen, who raised questions about the Shelter’s operation at last week’s City Council meeting.

Goodman says the City must follow certain protocols in responding to complaints from citizens.  He says Ms. Jensen’s concerns are being addressed, and that a response from the City will be coming shortly.  After Jensen spoke to the Brenham City Council during the citizens’ comment portion of last week’s meeting, Mayor Milton Tate said the City would take her complaints seriously, including putting the subject on the agenda of a future Council Meeting.

  1. So glad the city council will listen to Carol Jenson, she is an honest and reputable person who has the animal concerns first. Good for you Carol.

  2. Excellent job, Carol Jensen. I heard you speak last week at the City Council Meeting and have been upset ever since. You are very well-researched and very well-spoken. Your passion comes through your words. And I believe every word you say. Thank you for your diligent work on this. Very well done.

Thank you Mayor Tate and City Council for hearing her concerns, taking them seriously, and being willing to correct any gross misconduct.

God bless Brenham, Texas and all who serve this great town.

    1. Thank you, Hannah for the kind words. And thank you Mayor Tate and City Council for realizing that there are issues at the shelter. My sincere hope is that as improvements take place, the animal-loving citizens of Brenham will ALL sign up as volunteers and go over and spend some time with these wonderful animals. Spread the word to all your friends that the first option for obtaining a new four-legged family member should be adoption, and there are many cats and dogs at the shelter who will steal your heart if you just go in and give them a chance. They don’t ask for much, and they give unconditional love. And, most important of all, PLEASE spay and neuter your pets. The euthanization rate at the shelter is depressingly high. But the MOST significant cause for this is the sheer volume of animals being brought in as strays that have been allowed to run loose and unsterilized animals who produce litters that astronomically increase the number of unwanted animals. PLEASE Brenham let’s all be responsible pet owners and not contribute further to the problems at the shelter.
