POSGCD UNVEILS NEW WATER PROGRAM

The Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District of Milano announced a new water program on Friday.

POSGCD is forming the Post Oak Savannah Aquifer Conservancy Program, designed to let landowners commit their groundwater resources into a long-term conservation program, while being compensated for the conservation.

This program will allow certain landowners in Burleson and Milam counties to commit the water under their property to the PACP in increments of five, 10, or 20 years, while still preserving ownership and control of their own property.

The PACP is structured similarly to other conservation programs, and intends to reward landowners for conserving their resources.

  1. I don’t feel this article really outlines what the intent is for this program. This is a program designed to have landowners agree to not sell the underground water for purposes such as fracking. When an oil company wants to do a frack they have to have x amount of acres of water rights leased. And they will pay landowners a small amount per acre to meet that quota. This program is designed to pay landowners to not lease the underground water and commit to conserving it. It gives the landowner the opportunity to still make the money without the water being sold. I am not an expert on the subject, however I think this is a good program.

  2. Stay away from my property and don’t even tell me about another tax also. And also if you rent and don’t own, you have no say on my property. Don’t go there. It’s my property.

  3. My land, and the resources under my land, are my resources. That is the way I bought it, and that is the way my Constitution entitled my ownership when I bought my property.

    1. To have a program like this, Washington County needs a groundwater conservation district. Unfortunately voters rejected the proposal to have a similar multi-county district a few years ago when it was on the ballot. The opposition was led by a person who went on to become a current county commissioner, so it’s probably not an idea that could return soon. If a single-county district were to be created for Washington Co., it would need a new tax to be viable. The only affordable way to now have one is join an adjacent district. The voters said no….so here we sit.
