WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO HEAR 2018 AUDIT REPORT

Washington County will hear the results of its 2018 audit in commissioners court Tuesday.

Commissioners will go over an audit report from the outside auditing firm Rutledge, Crain and Company, Certified Public Accountants. The completed report was submitted June 30th.

County Judge John Durrenberger said he is not expecting any big surprises in this audit. He also said the county has received high praise in the past from this auditing firm, who, according to Durrenberger, said it has been impressed with how the county keeps its financial records and looks forward to working with the county each year.

Also in court, commissioners will consider approving a contract between the county and EMC International, Inc., for program management services for the Road and Bridge Maintenance Facility construction project. Back in May, when commissioners went out for qualifications, Durrenberger said the court does not have the expertise to oversee these projects by itself.

Commissioners will also look at accepting Council Lane, East Crosswinds Court, West Crosswinds Court, and Carey Drive into the county road system. These roads are located in the Crosswinds Estates Subdivision off of Fritz Road and Highway 36 North in Precinct Three, near the site of the new Road and Bridge Facility.

Commissioners will also:

  • Open and discuss sealed requests for proposals for inmate food services at the Washington County Jail.
  • Discuss a pair of formal notices for proposed utility lines from Verdun Oil Company.  The formal notices are for 6-inch natural gas pipeline crossings within county right-of-way of Brandt Road and Eckermann Road in Precinct Four.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday morning at 9 a.m., at the Washington County Courthouse.

  1. Thanks to our commissioners court for having the wisdom to engage an auditor to oversee our counties finances. It is a very important part of maintaining an honest and above board financial accounting of how tax payers dollars are spent by our elected officials. Which, by the way is far, far more than our state is doing. Very few Texas taxpayers know that our state has had NO state auditor for more than 3 years now. Every voter should be asking their representatives WHY?
