BARS TO RE-OPEN IN WASHINGTON COUNTY; BUSINESS CAPACITY RAISED

Bars in Washington County have been given the green light to reopen, and other businesses are allowed to increase their capacity.

KWHI received notice on Friday from Washington County Judge John Durrenberger that the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) has stated that bars in the county can now reopen at 50 percent capacity.  Business capacity has also been raised to 75 percent.

This comes after Trauma Service Area N, the hospital region that includes Washington County, reported a COVID-19 hospitalization rate lower than 15 percent for seven consecutive days.  Per Governor Greg Abbott’s Executive Order GA-32, if COVID-19 patients make up less than 15 percent of all hospitalized patients in the region, then occupancy limits can be raised.

The counties in the hospital region—those being Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Leon, Madison, Robertson and Washington counties—were ordered to reduce business capacity and close bars in December due to high COVID-19 hospitalizations.

  1. I agree with you that the intentional coughing on people (which I have not witnessed) is inappropriate and uncalled for. But this is NOT NORMAL, nor should it ever be. I will not walk around for the rest of my life wearing a mask because you’re afraid of getting sick. If you’re afraid, YOU wear your mask and YOU stay home. The rest of us want our lives back.

  2. If you all would wear your masks, social distance, and stay home when you are sick, maybe you wouldn’t have your “toys” taken away. Between the plethora of citizens going to the grocery stores without masks and the overall abundance of people in this town making COVID death jokes and going out while proclaiming they are “positive”, I am sure this won’t last and it really shouldn’t. OR Maybe the bars need to get harsh on the patrons about wearing their masks and distancing themselves.

What would be better is if people who be heard accountable for not masking up in public OR making jokes and coughing on people or, as I experienced friday night, making threats of being purposely exposed to COVID. People need to learn a lesson that doesn’t horribly affect their lives or the lives of others.

Covid is not a joke or a hoax. It is not idiocy to protect the masses. There is a new normal here people. Get used to a life where you need think about how your actions affect others.

  3. I’ve got to be honest here, I really do miss my local watering hole! But I also question this move. I fully understand the tremendous economic impact these closures and restrictions on restaurants and bars have had. Their owners have had to bear a sizable burden no doubt. We are probably all familiar with this burden. I know I’m dead broke! But is now the time to let up in our fight against this plague? As hard as all this has been, we must continue to do all we can against an enemy whose price is death.

    1. This is not the plague. That is a foolish statement. This is a bad respiratory flu for a very, very, very, very, small percentage of the population. Please, stay home for as long as you must. Wear 2 or 3 masks if that suits you. The majority of the rest of us can understand that it is time to get back to normal.

  4. Reopen!! I guess people need to drink. No one is taking it seriously until it happens to them or their loved ones.

    1. It happened to me, and I have absolutely no problems re-opening. Let’s get our lives back to normal. Because what we’re doing now is absolutely NOT normal, nor should it ever be.

  5. I thought they were already open at 50% or more the because driving by the local bars it seems pretty normal to me but maybe there selling hotdogs, frito pies and bologna sandwiches with every drink…

Let’s hope this can last a little longer then the previous time the ban was in effect so the jobs come back for those out of work.
