BOIL WATER NOTICE FOR CITY OF BRENHAM; CONSERVATION NOTICE ISSUED

Update @ 9 a.m.: The City of Brenham has announced that all water utility customers are now under a boil water advisory, not just the customers previously listed in the city's high-pressure plane area.

Due to low water pressure and high water demands, city officials are asking customers to refrain from dripping faucets and running water unnecessarily, and to report all leaks in an effort to conserve water.  Leaks can be reported by calling 979-337-7400.

Original Story @ 6:46 a.m.: A boil water notice has been issued for part of the City of Brenham.

The city's water system has been required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to issue the notice, due to water system pressure going below 20 PSI in the city's high-pressure plane, extending west along Highway 290 to Sunset Road and south along Highway 36 to Anderson Lane.

Customers in the affected area should boil their water prior to consumption or use to ensure the destruction of all harmful bacteria and microbes.  Water should be brought to a vigorous, roiling boil and then boiled for two minutes.  Children, seniors, and people with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria and should follow these directions.

In lieu of boiling, customers can purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source.  When it is no longer necessary to boil water, the city's water system officials will send out notification that the water is safe for consumption and issue instructions to discontinue boiling.

The boil water notice comes after several water main breaks were reported in the city Tuesday afternoon.  As of 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, four of the eight water main breaks have been repaired and restored.

Anyone with questions can call 979-337-7400.

  1. This article states: city of Brenham has had EIGHT broken water mains. EIGHT, this is unbelievable. Instead of the city of Brenham planner being so concerned about the area, how big, my business sign is, maybe they need to be maintaining city of Brenham utilities instead. What other petty issues are being conducted instead of what is really important, like, utility maintenance? This preventable incident proves that Brenham officials and planners and managers are lackadaisical on spending tax dollars on what is really necessary and important. This mismanagement of priorities to the taxpayers and citizens of Brenham must hold responsible planners, managers, officials, accountable.

    1. I agree with you plus more words… but do you really think one of those mentioned will really be held accountable? Heck “No” this is Brenham where they make excuses during tough times and build bathrooms so they think there at home type of way instead of spending time and money on maintenance but ohh yeah the state will bail them out so keep receipts!!!

  2. I am almost downtown, not on that map, and have very low water pressure and brown water. What do I do?
